John Wooden's Pyramid of Success is awesome, but these take less effort to figure out -
Sometimes we just need to remember what the 13 Rules of Life really are:
1. Never give yourself a haircut after three margaritas.
2. You need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape.
If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40.
If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.
3. The five most essential words for a healthy, vital relationship are, ! "I apologize" and "you are right."
4. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.
5. Never pass up an opportunity to pee.
6. If he/she says that you are too good for him/her - believe them.
7. Learn to pick your battles; Ask yourself, "Will this matter one year from now? How about one month? One week? One day?"
8. When you make a mistake, make amends immediately. It's easier to eat crow while it's still warm.
9. If you woke up breathing, congratulations!
You have another chance!
10. Living well really is the best revenge. Being miserable because of a bad or former relationship just might mean that the other person was right about you.
11. Work is good, but it's not that important. Money is nice, but you can't take it, or anything else, with you. Statistics show most people don't live to spend all they saved; Some die even before they retire. Anything we have isn't really ours; we just borrow it while we're here... even our kids.
12. Be really good to your family and/or friends. You never know when you are going to need them to empty your bedpan.
13. If you are going to be able to look back on something and laugh about it,you may as well laugh about it now.
Enjoy life! It's too short not to indulge in what life has to offer.

You know I'm bored when I start aimlessly clicking on anything online... I found this link to bruinwalk.com and I decided to see what people think of the professors I used to love back in college... This is hilarious - someone pointed out something about my Business Law and Tax prof. Gonzalo Freixes - His name is spelled SEXIER backwards, how can you go wrong? He's one of the best profs at UCLA, by far. That is so much cooler than Krap Alliv (my high school spelled backwards).
Enjoying my FIFTH day off work this month! I have worked 26 days this month and it sucks big time! My mentality would be completely different if I were working for a Big 4 though. Oh well, can't change what life throws at you.
Watching Father of the Bride right now on TBS to get away from war coverage. There's nothing on afterwards so I'll probably switch to war coverage again but I need breaks here and there. Everyone has their own opinions on the war but this pretty much sums it up for me - Why We Must Fight and Now!. That link is about 10 days old so it might not work soon but the jist of it is:
In 1998 then-President Bill Clinton stated: "What if he [Saddam] fails to comply [with disarmament] and we fail to act? He will conclude that the international community has lost its will. He will then go right on building up his arsenal. Someday, someway, I guarantee you, he'll use that arsenal." Last year, former Vice President Al Gore stated, "[W]e know that he [Saddam] has stored away secret supplies of biological weapons and chemical weapons throughout his country."
It is not President Bush who woke up one day to discover that Saddam was making and harvesting weapons of mass destruction. Yet it is Bush who is blamed for doing something about it. Saddam may be mad, but he is not a scientist. He does not collect chemical and biological weapons for mere pleasure and intrigue. Just ask the survivors of Halabja. So when Saddam acts, it will be Bush and America who are blamed for inaction, for appeasement. We will be liable for such blame because we are the only ones who can do something about it.
Where are all those people who blamed Bush for not doing enough to prevent September 11th? It's a no win situation either way whatever he does and he and his well-educated Cabinet (I'm sure you've seen the email (middle of the post) about who's smarter, Hollywood celebs or Bush and his Cabinet) think they're doing the right thing - they get intelligence reports every day and they know a lot more than they can tell us.
On to a less controversial topic - everyone loves Coach John Wooden, not just the UCLA community. He won us 10 basketball championships in 12 years and every UCLA coach since has had the unreal expectation to live up to that. I read this article The Wisdom of John Wooden and it almost made me cry cause I admire the guy so much. Anything can make me cry these days but it just meant a lot to me. I bought his book back when I was in college and he autographed it for me but I never picked it up and started reading it. I should though - his Pyramid of Success might give me the meaning of life.

Eileen just called me and we talked for an hour... you know that's a good friend when you can talk ALL DAY at work everyday and still have things to talk about after work, especially the hours we work right now. She snuck into Stan's office to find the resume of this girl that is going to be starting on Monday. Stan just told us today that a "woman" is starting - guess she's old and stuff. She copied the girl's resume and was telling me all about those spelling errors on there. First of all, this girl had the WRONG phone number on her RESUME!!! She spelled bookkeeper with one K, kept writing "filling" when she means filing, and the grammar that she used to describe her jobs just plain sucked. This is gonna be interesting.
My old boss Mona would have thrown that resume away the second she saw it. She was very anal about little things like that and I'm so glad she was my first real boss (besides the student store and my bro's company, those don't count) - you start off your working life being very meticulous about things and it only helps you out in life. I learned a lot from that job. She had a great filing system and I was so much more organized even in my personal life when I worked for her. She would edit her letters and pleadings countless times before we sent them out; if there was a spelling error, even on a useless cover sheet, we'd reprint it. My grammar was so much better when I worked for her too... I feel like I'm wasting away at this job right now because I'm just not being challenged. I know the bulk of my time is going to be checking the new girl's work now. Even with the last assistant (a UCLA grad), I had to check his work so much that my work piled up because I'd rather do it myself and get it right. I would have lunch with the other attorneys and we'd have meaningful conversations about current events and stuff like that. You learn so much from people who are that accomplished in life. Eileen is great and she's a great friend/mentor but its not the same. The only complaint I had about Mona was that she'd do everything last minute and I'm sure I lost a couple years off my life because of the stress I went through. It has helped me a lot though. A couple weeks ago, the assistant was panicking because he couldn't get the business tax license forms out by the time the mailman came to pick up the mail (5pm)... I told him not to worry because he can go across the street to the mall and their pickup time was 6pm... a whole HOUR! Even with that he was still panicking... Mona used to finish her pleadings at 3:45 (clerk's office closes at 4), I'd have to make copies, sort them out, put the blue backing on the court copies, put the DA's copies in envelopes, stamp them original and copies, etc. etc... run to Mona's car and we'd rush to the court house... I'd have to go through security and run to the basement of the court house. 99% of the time we made it though. My current boss Stan panics at every little thing and it gets annoying. Eileen and I hide stuff from him and take care of it ourselves just to save ourselves from having to listen to the 15 minute panic attack.

FREAKING A... I left here at 1:30pm, after working my 4 hours today and then my boss calls me at home at 3pm, "Can you work a little longer?" Why the hell did I even answer the phone???
So now I'm back in the office, miserable.
Eileen saw me stutter in, she saw the expression on my face and she started laughing. "WHY ME??" and she replies, "I say the same thing every day."
WORK SUCKS, stay in school as long as you can.

Another damn Saturday at work. I am so burned out right now I don't know what to do. This girl was supposed to start on Tuesday but she emailed Stan that morning saying she couldn't work here for some unspecified reason (Stan told me what he thought the reason was but I'm not gonna publicize it for everyone so email me if you want to know - that email link on the top row works, its the only button that works cause I can't figure out how do to the rest) - I've had to work an extra hour or two every day this week and here I am on Saturday... I'm leaving here after my four hours are up, even if its just to go home and do nothing - I can't stand being in the office anymore!
I got so much to post cause its been a while but I need to produce some work so I can have that to show the boss if he ever asks ("Yeah, this is what I'm working on right now, I'm almost done", knowing full well you finished it a day or two ago)... I'll work on the journal today though...
Dante is moving out next week and I'm still trying to get over it - been depressed and I've lost my appetite (1 real meal in the last 2 days). I'll miss having him around all the time but he already has a new place so I just have to deal with it. And his new place is kinda far from me so I won't see him that much even though he says I'll see him all the time. Oh well... This is almost as bad as the first time he broke up with me and I just need to move on I guess. Anyone know any cute single non-player guys??
I added a guest map though - sign in! The icon for it is under the message board.

Just finished doing my taxes... Woohoo! $400 back. It just took me 5 minutes to do, don't know why I didn't do them sooner.
I was just playing around on the internet after I did my taxes and I found these articles - they are hilarious!! I hate University of Oregon because of the way we lost the last game but their campus newsletter came up with this issue back in October - Hate. Read the ones "Two Minute Hate, parts 1-4" - some bitter people there! They're more bitter than me and Eileen, if thats possible. And then read the "Another Perspective" at the end... so funny!

I'm watching the Bush/Blair/Aznar press conference right now and I realize how much I miss being completely into politics. I should have been a poli sci major... my grades would have been better and I might be working at Deloitte & Touche right now working my way up the corporate ladder. Wow. My life right now is totally NOT how I imagined. I thought I'd be working my ass off at a Big 5 (Big 4 now) accounting firm, traveling to cities (company paid) doing audits... With the Deloitte job, I would've met my husband through my job and we'd be set because both of us are making enough to live a nice comfortable life. I always imagined myself with a guy who wore business suits to work everyday and was just overall confident and powerful, but then again, I'm sure everyone does. (Girls at least... maybe some guys too - heehee). Debbie is living the life I want!! She works at Deloitte Tax (was at Arthur Andersen Tax until all that shit hit the fan), got married last December to the guy she met in college - they're both mega-successful. She's a year younger than me and she has it all already! She's the sweetest person too - she deserves it all.
Tony Blair is awesome. So articulate! I think Bush & Co. know a lot more than they're telling us... don't want to make a whole country panic - that'll create too much chaos. Besides, Saddam had 12 years to disarm and its not like he's going to do it voluntarily any day now. I was driving home the other night and it hit me... Dante is totally like Saddam - you shouldn't believe any shit he says because time and time again, he's lying and when he's caught in the lie, he'll make up another lie.
The last time I was this into politics was back in fall 2000. I took an Intro to American Politics class that quarter and it was so interesting to have that class during the presidential campaign, the election and the subsequent recounts. (George P. Bush, the president's nephew is amazing... my dream politics man). I knew everything going on everyday - watched every debate, understood the electoral college, knew the merits of every lawsuit, every recount and every Supreme Court decision, EVERYTHING! We talked about it in class every Tuesday/Thursday (I think) and I was a total expert. The only other classes I was that into were History of American Motion Picture and Business Law.
I cleaned my room up a little bit yesterday... There were a ton of cables just tangled up under my bed and I couldn't do too much about it but it looks a little neater now. I also tried to fix the under the desk keyboard drawer (Dante broke it a couple months ago) just to get the keyboard off my desk so I can have more desk area. I don't know if its the cheap table or what but I just know he's going to break it again an hour after he gets on the computer, so the keyboard is back on the desk now. I need a man around to fix things, not to break them. I'm more handy than most girls because I learned early that if you want something done, you gotta do it yourself. I've got the most useless boyfriend/ex-boyfriend (whatever he is) in the world. I put together ALL the furniture in this apartment myself and I even put together Eileen's furniture to help her out. I can't even count on Dante to put the cap back on the toothpaste!! Ooooh, I just thought of the best boyfriend in the world... Either Ty Pennington, the carpenter on Trading Spaces or Andrew Dan-Jumbo, the carpenter on While You Were Out... both cute and resourceful :).
I need a tan badly... and I need to go to the gym (it's March 16, so only 15 more days left to keep my New Years resolution - gym at least once per month) because I can pinch an inch of fat around my stomach/waist area. Not too noticeable but still, it bugs. Will someone go to the beach with me?? Steve?? I'll take my chances that you'll blind everyone there with your whiteness cause I want to go so bad.

AAAHHHH!!! Just got more work :(. I was sitting at the other desk doing deposits (I keep getting the ink from the stamps on my hands!) and the other partner I do work for just handed me another stack of papers to work on for a new client. I had spent all this week working on his $43 million client and I'm trying to catch up on Stan's stuff and now I have more work. I might be in all day tomorrow...
Oh yeah - another thing I forgot to bring up earlier - I'm THROUGH being nice to guys. Last week I was getting mail from my mailbox and this guy I kinda recognized kept staring at me. So I started talking to him cause I remember he lived downstairs, Dante had talked with him a couple times and then he disappeared for 6 months. He told me he was calling Santa Monica college trying to get re-enrolled, etc. and that he had been at a basketball camp and he just came back. (The guy was really in jail - Dante told me later). He mentioned he was trying to transfer to USC to play basketball (first thought in my head: FAT CHANCE - to play at UCLA or USC, you have to be a top high school player and you have to be recruited) and because he mentioned USC, I told him, "USC? I can't talk to you then." Then he figured out I lived upstairs and asked about Dante and I told him Dante moved in, he'll be back from work at 6pm. I guess this guy has no friends or whatever because he's been calling Dante a lot and coming up a lot asking for him. I don't really like him being in the apartment because he has this body odor thing but I don't say anything. Two days ago, he asked Dante if we would do a threesome and I got so pissed at Dante for even having the nerve to ask me. This morning Dante told me that the guy told him I was checking him out that day, looking him up and down and I wouldn't stop talking to him until he told me, ok then. He said he knew it wasn't true because the guy isn't my type but he just wanted to let me know what he said. The guy ISN'T my type - he's ugly and a little too young and he stinks - but I am so pissed the guy even thought that. Being nice to people has gotten me in trouble before (when I first started working downtown a couple years ago, this black guy at Burger King talking to me and then asked me if I've ever done it with a black guy before - DUMBASSES! that's not how you pick up on a girl) and I've learned my lesson now.
I have been flirting with someone else though - that client that I've been talking about for the past couple days (the Rick Fox lookalike, he's an actor). He's so cute and mature and has the sexiest accent... Awwwww...

Wow - I must've been tired last night. I fell asleep watching TV and I missed Friends and Scrubs - new episodes too! I woke up at 9:15pm for Will & Grace but I don't watch that show so that didn't do me any good. I'm still upset about that. Dante and I got enough sleep the night before (we didn't stay up til 2 or 3am like we sometimes do) but he fell asleep at 10pm for the night.
More random postings that I didn't get to yesterday:
I don't like Ben Affleck because of his association with J. Lo (which I still think is for publicity purposes until their movie comes out) but I heard an interview with him on some radio station (probably Jamie and Danny on STAR) and he won me over... I heard him say something about how whenever he goes somewhere, there's always someone who starts yelling AFLAC!! AFLAC!! like the duck in those commercials. It just shows that he has a little personality. I liked him in Armaggedon (the last movie to make me cry, before then it was Titanic) but I think that was more because of my Bruce Willis love.
Dante has been getting more white the longer he lives with me. I turned him from a BET man to an MTV person when he first moved in. Then I talked him into being a Republican - I grew up in Villa Park and that is as Republican of a city as you'll find in California. The most recent change happened as I've been taking him to work every morning. I have my radio on STAR 98.7 a lot because I get sick of Power 106 and The Beat sometimes and its not cool to have your radio on KIIS, KOST or KBIG. I used to listen to Jamie White and Danny Bonaduce in the morning when I had the long ass commutes (Anaheim to Downtown and then Anaheim to West LA) and although a lot of people can't stand them, I thought they were funny. I would listen to Kevin and Bean more but my radio only has 6 presets and I don't listen to 106.7 enough to switch one of my other presets. Anyway, Jamie and Danny's show is as white as you'll get but Dante listened to it a couple times and liked it enough to switch to them from Big Boy (Power 106).
Eileen and I were talking about what it would be like if we ran the company. (It might happen if the company wins the lottery and I don't go in on the pot - I've taken my chances a couple times). Instead of giving Employee of the Month to the person who works the hardest, we'd give it to the employee that finds the cutest boy for us to look at. We'd have our office in a high profile place where we can see people coming and going. Yeah, we have too much time in this office. Its been busy too but that doesn't stop us from chatting and plotting. I've been working a lot of overtime recently and there is still a ton more work to do. Oops, guess I better get off my ass and do some of it instead of sitting here writing in this journal.

What a week, what a week. I have so much to say I dont even know where to start. Its mostly just random shit anyway but if youre interested, read on
Stan just came back from the gym or wherever he went. He came into our office and I asked him, Did you hear about UCLA? His reaction, SHIT! Dont tell me hes [Coach Lavin] going to keep his job and he throws his lightweight jacket to the floor and stomps on it. It was hilarious shit a 60 year old nerdy white guy throwing his jacket to the floor so passionately like that.
Congrats to UCLA Ray Young, I love you. I went off-track for about a year because I was brainwashed into thinking Dante was the cutest person ever, but Im back on track now and I love you. He was my favorite player back in college (everyone loved Baron Davis and Earl Watson and so did I but I have to like a player not everyone loves. Just makes it more special that way) and I remember being so giddy after I took a picture with him after a game once got that roll 1 hour developed the next day. Still have that photo framed in my room. I think my love for Ray restarted again after I realized he looks a little like Michael Ealy.
I just heard Stan tell the other partner Gus that he's gonna write a letter of protest to UCLA keeping Steve Lavin. Great, that'll keep him occupied for an hour or two so I can finish this journal...
I walked into Stans office on Tuesday to give him some papers and he tells me, my client broke up with his girlfriend. And I just think, Ok? Why is he telling me this? Then he says, You know, the one that looks like Rick Fox. My ears perked up and then I remembered the source of all my Rick Fox Love. I had liked Rick as a player cause he was cute, he took way less money to come win a championship with the Lakers (most players just SAY that they dont care about the money, all they want to do is win and then they turn around and sign a huge ass contract with a crap team like Toronto), and his wife is awesome, but I didn't love him the way I do now. My favorite player was Kobe for the longest time - from the day he was traded to the Lakers til a few years ago. I still have major love for Kobe but now that everyone loves him, its not the same... I think him getting engaged kinda ruined it too. Like I said earlier, I have to like a player not everyone likes so Rick Fox just fell into my lap I guess. Stan had told me about this client about a year ago - he came to my desk and told me that this client coming in looked a little like Rick Fox, so I said ok I'll check him out. Stan was in the conference room with this client and he saw me walk by casually to steal a glance and he starts smiling... from then on, he assumed Rick was my favorite player and every time he heard news about Rick Fox, he'd tell me. We were in the conference room for a birthday celebration last year during the playoffs and he was flipping through the Sports Illustrated. He found a picture layout of the Lakers on the road and he was like, "Hey Lucy - Look, there's Rick, your favorite player!"
Anyway, back to this client - I just met him about an hour ago when I was helping him before Stan came back. This guy is nice, articulate, tall enough and really cute. He has a little bit of an accent and I usually hate accents but this was a sexy accent. I haven't stopped smiling all afternoon. UCLA won and the guy was awesome.

working on a saturday... :(
I've learned so many tips about the working world from Eileen that I forget some of them... Stan came in here asking Eileen about the tax return for a client and before he could go on, she asked him about his loaner car from Lexus and we talked about that for 10 minutes. Then he brought up the tax return again and left to go interview someone to take over the assistant's job (his last day is Monday). I didn't think anything of the exchange until he left and Eileen told me "it didn't work" and I remember what her strategy was - change the subject so he'd forget why he came in here. It usually works! :)
I've been working my butt off lately. Eileen counted that there are 26 work days for us this month (Saturdays included, but I get OT). AND for these first two weeks, I go to JP's office after work here and work for 3-4 hours. Oh well, the extra income helps... and its not like I have a life anyways.
Eileen just came back to our little office and told me that the girl Stan is interviewing right now is a big time FOB so I need to go look... the one yesterday we could already tell would be annoying because of her laugh. Why can't they hire any cute guys dammit? As soon as the assistant leaves, it'll be all female here except for the partners and they're all old fogies.

Eileen and I were just talking about the World Trade Center... like why the terrorists had to blow up those gorgeous buildings, instead of the IRS (yup, it's tax season and we're getting frustrated).
Heehee, I don't know how the subject of Gwyneth came up but she said she heard that Gwyneth and the guy from Cold Play moved in together. "That almost makes me want to not open the CD and return it!!" I don't know why but so many people can't stand Gwyneth Paltrow. That's the thing with people labeled "America's Sweetheart" Some people can't stand Julia Roberts. People used to like Jennifer Lopez until she became the J. Lo she is today... same thing with Beyonce Knowles. I guess its a matter of opinion. There are some actresses/singers that keep their appeal even with the media hype - Reese Witherspoon and Gwen Stefani are the only two I can think of though. I watched that MTV Diary with Kate Hudson and she seemed cool but its too soon to tell with her.
